Armstrong County Envirothon
Armstrong
County Environthon will be held on Wednesday, May
2, 2012 at the Environmental Learning Center, Crooked
Creek. Competitors must be enrolled in grades
9 through 12 or equivalent home education program
ranking.
Teams
comprising of five students
compete in five subject areas using their knowledge
in five topic areas - aquatic ecology, forestry, soils
and land use, wildlife, and a current environmental
issue. The 2012 current environmental issue
is "Nonpoint Source Pollution/Low Impact Development".
Winners
of the local competition will participate in the 2012
PA State Envirothon that will be held Tuesday, and
Wednesday, May 22 & 23rd, 2012 at the University
of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, Cambria County where over
$10,000 in scholarships and prizes are awarded.
State winners earn the chance to compete at the 25th
Annual Canon Envirothon, at Susquehanna University,
Selinsgrove July 22 - 27, 2012 North America's largest
high school natural resource education competition.
